FORMULA FORD: The car must be an open-wheel single
seater having a minimum racing weight of 1125 lbs., including the driver,
and be powered by a Ford 1600 cc 4-cylinder Kent engine from which the
class is named. These engines produce approximately 115 horsepower and
are capable of accelerating to speeds of over 230 KPH / 140 MPH.
In Formula Ford, no aerodynamic devices are permitted (example: wings,
fins, or skirts), however considerable freedom in the shape of the body
which is a multi-piece fiberglass shell. This permits easy access to
the frame and engine. In addition, the car has a completely adjustable
4-wheel independent suspension and employs a 4-wheel disc braking system.
Rack and pinion steering, a quick change Hewland four speed gearbox and
alloy wheels are all standard features.
In many respects, the Formula Ford racecar is a scaled down version
of its larger, more powerful brother, the Champcar Lola-Ford Cosworth
